Advik Partners with Shell Foundation to Accelerate Deployment of Li-ion Battery Technology

  • Partnership will fund research and development into Advik’s next-gen advanced battery technology, and test adoption for use in India and Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Advik offers the world’s first serviceable, reusable and scalable lithium-ion batteries
  • Shell Foundation, in partnership with the UK government, backs commercial innovation that increases incomes while lowering emissions

Advik, a leading automotive component manufacturer, has announced a partnership with UK charity Shell Foundation and the UK government to accelerate the deployment of Li-ion battery technology across India and Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

The collaboration, supported by the UK Government’s Transforming Energy Access (TEA) platform, will see research into, and development of, three new batteries. These batteries will be designed and tested to power two- and three-wheeler vehicles as well as stationary storage options to displace diesel generators.

The partnership will promote faster adoption of clean energy solutions in India and the SSA  region, harnessing Advik and Shell Foundation’s respective expertise to champion a more sustainable future for mobility and energy storage.

Advik is a leading global manufacturer of automotive components, with a large portfolio of products serving the world’s top manufacturers of two-, three- and four-wheeled vehicles and energy storage systems.

Advik’s battery technology revolutionises Li-ion battery design. By eliminating the need for welding, it promotes reusability and scalability. The technology is fully serviceable, which increases battery life and reduces wastage, supporting the circular economy.

Shell Foundation de-risks commercial innovation that increases incomes while lowering emissions for low-income customers across emerging markets. It has been operational since 2000 and has a track record of advancing clean energy solutions via a portfolio of innovative technology providers and business models reaching millions of underserved customers.

Mr Aditya Bhartia, Managing Director of ADVIK, expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasising its contribution to a sustainable future powered by clean energy.

“Shell Foundation’s innate knowledge of the SSA markets will be invaluable in helping us understand and address the region’s unique challenges, while we take lead in promoting this in India. We look forward to collaborating closely and learning from their extensive experience.”

Mr Jonathan Berman, CEO of Shell Foundation, highlighted the ecosystem approach that the collaboration with Advik unlocks.

“Collaborating with a proven sector player like Advik will mean a larger number of customers in a shorter time frame can access income-generating, emission-reducing solutions. We’re excited to connect Advik’s expertise with Shell Foundation’s network of scalable businesses across Africa.”

Both organisations are committed to expanding market reach and promoting an ecosystem for growth. To achieve this, they are leveraging relationships in both markets to enable this technology to scale.
