Nayo working with Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency on Covid-19 response facilities

The Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of renewable energy as a vital resource, helping governments to protect their citizens and reduce the spread of the virus.

Nayo Tropical Technology has showcased a timely and innovative response to Covid-19.

Working with Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Nayo provided three off-grid solutions:

  • A 10kw hybrid solar solution at Iberekodo Isolation Centre in Ogun state
  • A 20kw hybrid solar solution centre at Ikenne also in Ogun state
  • A 25kw hybrid solar solution at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC ) public health Laboratory in Lagos state

The temporary sites, which allow healthcare professionals access to the facilities they need to provide essential services to patients in Nigeria, were both built and operational within a week by four employees.

DFID and USAID logosSF has supported Nayo since 2019, with co-funding from USAID and the UK government, to develop its engineering, procurement and construction business across Nigeria.  The ability to rapidly deploy solutions during such unprecedented times makes a real and obvious contribution to saving people’s lives.

It is encouraging to see how rapidly the off-grid energy sector has adapted to suit changing needs, and to see effective collaboration between public and private entities to battle Covid-19.
