Mary Thamari joined us in August 2024 bringing over 15 years of experience in the development sector in Africa with broad research, technical assistance and project management background in the roles she has held.
In her most recent role, she supported African institutions involved in agriculture and food systems to build compelling gender strategies, assessments, M&E frameworks and in-house capacity. Mary has supported grantees of Gates Foundation, Mastercard Foundation and European Union in gender analyses, impact assessments, women in cross border trade study, and youth work aspirations research. She has broad experience in gender mainstreaming and women’s economic empowerment covering multiple thematic areas such as agriculture finance, food processing, smallholder farmers, climate mitigation and adaptation actions, nutrition, resilience, social behaviour change, gender responsive budgeting, and policy advocacy.
Mary is originally from Kenya and has just moved to the UK. She holds a PhD in Africa Studies and Anthropology from the University of Birmingham (UK), and she enjoys sudoku, sci-fi movies and cooking with her three sons.
